Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari, yesterday, expressed disappointment while talking about the steps taken by India to stop flow of water from Chenab violating the Indus Water Treaty. He said that the Indian Prime Minister had assured him during their meeting in the US that India stands committed to the Indus Water Treaty. He said “Pakistan would be paying a very high price for India’s move to block Pakistan’s water supply from the Chenab river, India should not trade-off important regional objectives for short-term domestic goals.”

Joint session of the parliament on Anti terror war to resume today

Islamabad: With no time limit set to the proceedings of the parliament closed door session resumes today. According to the officials the session can continue for 3 or 4 more days. The government of Pakistan is trying to develop a national consensus on the US led war on terror and the role of the Pakistan military and security forces in this war.

The opposition has up till now expressed its dissatisfaction on the in camera briefing by the military and now its the turn of the parliamentarians to speak out on this issue.

Karachi Stock Exchange to remain open

Karachi: As per earlier news the Karachi Stock Exchange high ups had decided to keep the stock market closed from indefinite period, but during the meeting held yesterday, between the Securities and Exchange commission and the directors of Karachi Stock Exchange it was decided that the Karachi Stock Exchange would resume its normal trading from Monday. The meeting parties could not reach a decision on how to tackle the burning issues faced by the stock market.

$1.4 billion assistance to Pakistan reaffirmed by the World Bank

Washington: During the meeting of the President of the World Bank and Mr. Shaukat Tareen, who has been appointed as the advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance, the World Bank President renewed its pledge to $ 1.4 billion loan to meet the country’s needs. The World Bank, had, pledged $600 million for investment portfolio and $800 million for budgetary support earlier.

Pakistan clamps victory over Sri Lanks in T20 thriller in Toronto

Toronto: The Pakistani Cricket team claimed victory in 20/20 series over the Sri Lankan team in Toronto, yesterday. Shoaib Malik remained unbeaten at 42 and was named the man of the match. Sri Lanka scored 137 for 9. Pakistan chased the target by 141 with 3 wickets remaining.

Paris (Reuters): The European leaders, on Sunday, met to dish out strategy that would help in averting the worst ever financial crises that the world is seeing after 1930. The leaders in the draft statement issued after the meeting said “Governments remain committed to avoid any failure of systematically relevant institutions, through appropriate means, including recapitalization.”

The world biggest democracy and secular state fails to contain communal riots - turns barbaric

Hyderabad: India ones again burns with the communal riots. 6 Muslim, members of one family were burnt alive by the Hindu extremists in Southern India. Earlier riots had erupted in the city claiming lives of 4 people and injuring 15 others. Among the people who were burnt alive by the Hindu’s were three children including a two year old boy.

Saturday night live by Tina Fey impersonates Sarah Palin

New York (AFP): Palin’s image was hijacked by Tina Fey in the NBC’s comedy show. The Show that is being hosted by the TV Channel for over 30 years. Sarah Palin faces image risk. Ms. Palin might have known how closely Fey resembled the US presidential candidate. She responded by saying “I love her. She’s a hoot and she’s so talented and it would be fun to either imitate her or keep on giving her more material and keep her in business.”

Korea’s name struck off from terrorist list - starts dismantling nuclear plants

Seoul (AFP): US moved and scraped the name of North Korea from the list of states that sponsors terrorism blacklist. North Korea has welcomed the move from the US. It has begun the disarmament and have allowed the UN inspectors to visit their nuclear facilities
